Organizing your home office

Organizing your home office shouldn’t be a major hassle but if it is, here are some easy steps that you can take to sort your office.

The first essential place to start your little organizing home office project is your desk.  If you think about it, it’s the hub of all activity.  Start off by scrutinizing your desk carefully.  Even grab yourself a pen and piece of paper and jot down some notes.  Ask yourself the question as to why your desk looks disorganized.  It may be due to piles of paper scattered everywhere, or it could be due to the fact that stationery and working files are taking over your desk.

Whatever the reason, if you spend half your time looking for missing stuff, your productivity is certainly going to be sub par.  So try to adopt good home office organization habits on an ongoing basis.  One essential habit to adopt is to try and start and end your day with a clean desk.

If you start your day with a clean desk you will feel focused about tackling your home business.  Have a notepad with your to do list well positioned next to your computer will also help you stay on track.  Towards the end of your working day, wind down by reviewing what you have achieved during your day.  Cross out items that you have completed during the day and make a new list of to do items for tomorrow’s schedule.

Once you have organized your desk, it’s time to do some other things to keep your office organized.  Emptying your bin regularly helps to keep your office looking clean.  If you have clients visiting, it is important to convey a professional image of someone who is serious about doing business by having a professional looking office.  The last thing you want to do especially when you are trying to secure a major client is to give them a bad impression.  A disorganized office can leave a bad impression on a potential client.  If your potential client thinks that you  appear disorganized, they may start to question the reliability of services that you will be providing to them.

On a sunnier note, try and air the windows of your home office to let some fresh air in regularly. You could also add a touch of greenery by displaying some indoor plants in your office.

Organizing your home office is a welcome change and will put on the path to staying focused to achieve your business goals.
