Organizing a Garage
When your garage gets to saturation point, you know its time to have a garage sale. When organizing a garage sale, think about having a declutter day to sort through the junk. Declutter days are best for tackling big tasks like organizing a garage. You will need plenty of time to tackle this task.
So what is at the root of our little garage clutter problem? It’s the way that we use our garage. Unfortunately, we don’t always treat it with the respect that it deserves. It’s the first place that we turn to when we want to move stuff around in our house. The garage competes between being used to store our cars and being used as a general dumping ground.
Here are some useful decluttering tips to help you sort your garage out.
Get Organized
The first thing you will need to do is get organized for your declutter day to clean up your garage. Take the cars out of your garage and create a bit more space for yourself whilst you are tidying up.
Take Stock of your Garage
Scan your garage to see what the current state of your garage is. Is it under control or majorly out of control? If it is majorly out of control, it may take you more than one declutter day to get organized. If that is the case, have a series of mini declutter days so that you focus your efforts over a week or so. You don’t want to lose momentum with your clean up, but yet at the same time, you don’t want to get overwhelmed and lose interest in tidying up your garage.
Make a List
Making a list helps you to stop getting overwhelmed with the task at hand. Get yourself a notepad and pen, and on the piece of paper, draw two columns with one heading titled item and another heading titled action.
List all major items in your garage in the first column and in the second column, write down the action that you are going to take. For example, items could be old fishing and boating equipment. The equipment has been sitting in your garage for donkeys years and it is no longer used. In the second column, decide that the action you are going to take is to give it away to friends who may share the same hobby.
Other actions that you might like to write down are to borrow a trailer to load up the fishing and boating equipment for delivery to your friend. Now you are making progress with your garage clean up.
Celebrate
When declutter day for your garage comes to an end, celebrate your successful day of getting your home organized. It is very satisfying to take stock of your possessions and organize your life.
