What is your Next Action to Declutter your Home?
From time to time I receive emails from readers at Declutter Day Tips, and one of the common issues that someone who is decluttering their home is faced with is the question of what should I declutter? It may seem a simple question to ask yourself, but then depending on how many weeks, months or perhaps years of clutter that you’ve accumulated, it could be a challenging question to answer.
Inherently I think we all know what decluttering tasks we should be focused on. But the choices become too many, and somewhat overwhelming, so we just leave things the way they have always been.
So here are a few more tips to help you on your way with decluttering your home.
Ask yourself What is your next action?
David Allen of Getting Things Done provides sage advice in what he teaches in his course. He will ask his students to ask themselves the question “What is your next action?”. If you don’t know the answer to his question, it’s kind of hard to get going. So right this minute, as you read this article, you should ask yourself “what is my next action?”. It’s a great question to ask yourself to get unstuck.
Write it Down
It never hurts, and it is critical to write down your next actions. Our subconscious mind is clever, in that it is at work trying to find a solution to our problems, even when we don’t think we are at present finding a solution. Once we have written down our next action, it helps to get our subconscious moving into action to solve that problem. Get enough momentum, and presto, we have action and progress.
Getting Unstuck
We’ve all had from time to time, that feeling that our house is so full of stuff, that we wouldn’t really know where to start. If you want to get unstuck, then apply the above 2 points from above.
Ask yourself “What is the next action?”
And
Write it down
You’ve just got yourself unstuck. Now, no excuses now!
Conquer Resistance to Work
Break through the resistance of whatever is holding you back from doing whatever you need to do. Issues of procrastination, fear, anxiety, stress, overwhelm, and lack of control are a few that pop up from time to time. Regain control by taking responsibility for things that you do have control of, and that is that of organizing your home. You do have control over organizing your home. You know that for a fact. Even if you may have been struggling with taking the next action.
Get started with decluttering your home. There’s never been a better time to declutter your home than now. Not tomorrow, not in the future.
It’s time to get unstuck.
