Getting Organized at Home – Identifying the Emotional Triggers

Getting organized at home can be a fun and reward experience. Because if you think about the end outcome your home will be a clutter free zone, and who doesn’t want that for their home?

In getting organized at home, there are a few simple rules that should abide by so that you can declutter your home as quickly as possible.

Throw Away Clutter

If your goal is to declutter quickly then you’ll need to throw away as much clutter as possible.

Unfortunately, clutter and junk tend to piles up in surplus amount if you are a clutter bug or a packrat. It’s just one of the traits of clutter bugs and pack rats to want to hang on to stuff, whether they require that particular possession or item.

If you are setting aside a special day to organize your home, prepare a declutter checklist so you can get organized ahead of time.

Throw Away the “Just In Case” items

Yes, you might need a particular item for a rainy day. But on the other hand, in all likelihood you probably won’t need an item if you haven’t used it in over a year or several decades for some. So don’t keep things just for the sake of holding on them for whatever reason you may have. Off course, sentimental items are the items that are the hardest to part with, and we’ll cover that in a blog post for another day.

Who is Accumulating More Stuff?

Who are the culprits in your household who like to accumulate stuff? I am sure you will be able to name a few names, as every household has its own clutter bag or packrat. If you are organizing a garage sale, then you’ll know to spend time with the cuplrit to help them get rid of their excess clutter. They may have to coaxed, encouraged, bribed to part with their belongings! If you know their triggers, which I am sure you will, you can encourage them to throw away their stuff.

Emotional Triggers

Identify your emotional triggers for wanting to hold on to stuff – as mentioned earlier, the reasons may be sentimental for holding on to your possessions. Once you have identified your emotional triggers, you will be in a better position to declutter your home and your life.

If you follow the above declutter tips, you’ll be well on your way to getting organized at home.

Household Organizing Tips – Get Productive and Stay Productive!

Don’t you wish you had more tricks up your sleeve to get and stay productive?

It would be great to start and finish those household chores quickly, so that you can spend your time on other leisurely pursuits.

So here are some useful household organizing tips to help you become more productive and stay productive for longer.

Focus is the Name of the Game

Focus is the name of the game. Try to recall a task that you did recently that you accomplished at lightning speed. It is likely that you accomplished the task quickly because you were focused. Being focused can help you complete tasks much quicker. For example, if you are decluttering your kitchen by cleaning out your pantry, stay focused on this task till you have finished.

Finish the Task

Finishing a task is as important as starting a task. A person demonstrates the best productivity when they start a task and finish it with minimal interruptions.

Minimize Interruptions

This leads me to the problem of interruptions. Recall the last time that you were trying to complete some decluttering around the house, and you were just starting to get into the swing of things when the phone rang and you had to drop everything to answer the phone. You then spent the next 30 minutes on the phone talking to your friend. Though it was most enjoyable, you had then lost momentum and when you returned to complete your decluttering task, you didn’t feel in the mood to continue the task, so you decided to abandon the task.

So in order to be as productive as possible when completing decluttering and household organizing tasks around the house, try to minimize the number of interruptions that you get. In the example above, it could be as simple as putting your phone on silent mode for the 30 minute or 1 hour duration whilst you try to stay focused on the task at hand.

Continue Momentum

Momentum is a lovely word that goes well with being productive in your life, whatever tasks you may be tackling in your life . When you start a task, and have good focus, continue the momentum by continuing with the task. Once you stop the task for whatever reason, you tend to lose momentum.

Hope that you have enjoyed these household organizing tips. In summary, when you start getting organized at home, try to stay focused, minimize the interruptions that you get, and continue the momentum of the task at hand till you finish the task.
