Clutter Tips No 16 – Which Closet Organizer System?
Which Closet Organizer System is best?
Here are some good closet organization systems to consider if you are in need of a new closet.
Ready Made Closet System
A ready made closet system is a low cost option and easy to purchase. Many people are purchasing a hanging closet organizer or a closet shelves organizer from their local home storage or organizing store to meet their storage needs. It is a relatively low cost solution that will help you organize your closet easily and quickly.
When choosing your hanging closet organizer, look for models that are durable and easy to wipe down and clean. For the kids, choose fun designs that coordinate well with their room furnishings and color scheme. They will be more inclined to keep their rooms and closets organized if they had a say in choosing their own closet organizer system.
Closet Organization Kit
A closet organization kit is an option that fits midway between a ready made closet system and a professional customized closet organization system. It helps if you are good at “do it yourself” projects to properly install your kit with minimal hassle.
Customized closet Organization System
A customized closet organization system is the whole gambit – utilizing quality materials and specially designed to meet your requirements. You could even consider hiring a professional organizer to provide expert input in designing your dream closet.
Review any items in your closet which shouldn’t be in your closet! Many an item has been found that truly doesn’t belong in a closet. Items from your study or from other bedrooms are some of the items that come to mind. Decluttering your closet is an opportune time to deal with issues. Either throw these items away or place them in their rightful places out of your closet.
So let’s get organized today and buy a new closet if you need one.
Best Regards,
Debra

The Big 3 Clutter Problems
Last Calls for Clutter! – Reader Survey
A while ago, I surveyed readers to find out what their biggest clutter problems are.
Here are the big 3 clutter problems as decided by readers of Declutter Day Tips.
Finding Time to Declutter
Readers felt that it was not always easy to find time to reduce clutter in their homes. With their busy daily schedules – that is, working at full time jobs, taking the kids to school and after activities, and time spent on weekends socializing with family and friends, not much time is left to declutter and organize our homes.
Deciding what to do with all that Clutter
Readers felt that it was difficult to make decisions on what to do with all that “clutter”. ie. whether to keep an item, whether to reuse an item, whether to recycle it, or whether to throw it away.
Perfectionism
Lastly, but not least, striving for perfectionism was a stumbling block in trying to reduce clutter in the home and get organized. Readers expressed that they often found it difficult to get started because they wanted to achieve a perfect outcome. So what often happens is that they don’t get started at all.

Debra

Declutter Day Tips 15
Get Your Clutter Madness under Control
Here are some handy tips on how to schedule a monthly declutter day session in your diary.
Select a Clutter Theme
Make your declutter session as fun as possible. Select a theme for the upcoming month. Your theme could be based around a location – cleaning your kitchen benchtops is a popular one, or getting rid of excess paper piling up in your study is usually another common area requiring attention.
If you plan on having a “heavy duty cleaning” theme, get all your equipment ready for your clean up session ie. bring out your trusty mop, cleaning bucket, cleaning supplies etc. Buy any special cleaning supplies in advance of time if your tasks include polishing or restoring old surfaces.
Before your scheduled monthly clean up day comes around, make a to list of all the things that will require organizing. If your theme is “cleaning the study”, your to do list may look something like:
Sort paperwork and place in your in-tray for filing;
Clear your office desk;
Vacuum the carpets;
Attend to any maintenance issues in your study, for example, buy printer cartridge or restock printer paper.
Make a date with yourself
Book an important appointment with yourself – set a date for your next declutter day session.
Decide on how many hours you can spare each month to reduce clutter in your home.
A couple of hours is an ideal length of time for a Clutter Control session to keep yourself motivated and energized to organize your home.
Save Money by Getting Organized
Who doesn’t like to save money? Taking action every month to reduce clutter helps you to save money each month. For example, you have fewer occasions to do last minute shopping on expensive items for your house, or your kitchen larder is organized in such a way that at any given time you know exactly what items you need to buy for your weekly grocery shop.
So let’s get organized today and schedule your next monthly declutter day.
So that you can enjoy the feel of a well organized house that has had a great declutter makeover!
Best Regards,
Debra
